Thermostat Installation — Book a Visit Today

We install, replace and wire thermostats for homeowners across Arizona, California and Nevada, including smart thermostats, straight replacements and zoning controls. Most calls start the same way: the screen is blank, the temperature reading is wrong by several degrees, or a new thermostat was installed and the heat now runs when cooling is called. A visit begins at the wall plate, then the low voltage wiring back to the air handler or furnace board, and the common wire that many older tract homes never had pulled. We confirm the equipment type before we pick a control, because a heat pump, a two stage furnace and a zoned system each need different staging. Call us with your system type and we will schedule the install.

The thermostat installation symptoms we hear most

  • The thermostat screen is completely blank Dead batteries, no common wire, or a tripped low voltage fuse at the control board
  • It says 72 but the house feels like 80 Sensor drift, a thermostat mounted on a hot wall or near a supply vent, or a failing control
  • I installed a smart thermostat and now the AC short cycles Wiring or staging mismatch, missing common wire, or power stealing on an incompatible system
  • Upstairs bakes while downstairs is freezing Single thermostat serving two load zones, a candidate for zoning controls and dampers
  • The heat comes on when I call for cooling Reversing valve setting wrong on a heat pump, or O/B and Y wires landed on the wrong terminals

Search for it as thermostat installation or thermostat replacement and you land in the same place: one visit, one written quote.

Safe things to check first

Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.

  • 1 Change the thermostat batteries if it takes them, then see if the display returns.
  • 2 Check the breaker for the air handler or furnace and the outdoor unit, and reset it once if it has tripped.
  • 3 Replace the filter if it is grey and loaded, since a starved system can look like a thermostat problem.
  • 4 Walk the house and confirm supply and return vents are open and not blocked by furniture or rugs.

Thermostat Installation — quick answers

Will a smart thermostat work with my system?

Usually, but it depends on what you have. Heat pumps, two stage furnaces, dual fuel setups and zoned systems all need matching staging and a common wire. We verify the wiring at the equipment before choosing a control, so the thermostat and the system agree.

What is a common wire and why does it matter?

The common wire, or C wire, gives the thermostat steady 24 volt power. Older homes across the region often ran only four or five conductors and skipped it. Without it, smart thermostats steal power from the control circuit, which causes short cycling and blank screens.

How long does a thermostat replacement take?

A straight swap on existing wiring is usually under an hour, including setup and a test cycle in both heating and cooling. Pulling a new wire, adding an adapter at the control board or configuring zoning takes longer. We tell you which one you are looking at before we start.

Can one thermostat handle a two story house?

Often not well. One sensor reads one room, so the other floor overshoots. Zoning controls add dampers and a second thermostat so each floor calls independently. We look at duct layout and return sizing first, because zoning a starved duct system makes noise, not comfort.

Do you install a thermostat I already bought?

Yes, we install homeowner supplied thermostats. We will check compatibility with your equipment first, and if the model cannot run your staging or heat pump correctly we will say so before it goes on the wall rather than after.

My new thermostat reads a few degrees off. Is it broken?

Not necessarily. Location matters more than the device. A thermostat on an exterior wall, in a sunlit hallway or downstream of a supply register will read wrong all day. We check placement, offset calibration and airflow before condemning the control.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form with what you notice. Warm air, no air, short cycling, a smell, a noise. Details like when it started help us bring the right parts on the first visit.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, the electrical side, refrigerant performance, airflow and the return sizing. We test rather than guess, then explain what failed and why in plain language before any work starts.

  3. Step 3

    Repair and verify

We make the repair, then measure temperatures and airflow at the vents to confirm the system holds. If a duct or return is starving the equipment, we tell you what it would take to fix it.

Why homeowners call us

  • We know stucco tract homesMuch of the housing we service was built fast with returns too small for the tonnage installed. That single duct in the hallway explains a lot of weak airflow complaints, and we look at it before we sell you equipment.
  • Marine mornings, inland afternoonsCoastal condos fight humidity and salt air, while inland homes run long afternoon cycles in triple digits. Same system, different failure patterns. We set expectations for the climate your house actually sits in.
  • Diagnosis you can followYou get told which part failed, what it does and what happens if it waits. No hurry, no scare talk. If the honest answer is that the system has a few seasons left, we say that.
  • Repair before replacementMost calls end in a repair, not a new system. We quote replacement only when a repair will not hold or the cost stops making sense, and we explain the reasoning either way.
  • All major brands, gas & electricFrom Carrier and Trane to Lennox, Goodman, Rheem and Bryant, serviced independently.
  • Straight answersWhen a replacement beats a repair, we tell you, sometimes before we roll a truck.
