What an air duct cleaning actually involves
We start at the air handler and work outward. A negative air machine is connected to the trunk line so everything we loosen travels one direction, into collection, and not back into your rooms. Then we agitate each branch with brushes or compressed air whips, register by register, including the returns that usually hold the most debris. Boots and grilles get wiped by hand. On a typical tract home with a long supply run through the attic, this is a half day of steady work, not a quick pass with a shop vacuum.
What we check while we are in the system
With the ducts open we can see things you cannot from the hallway. We look for crushed flex runs behind stored boxes, disconnected boots dumping conditioned air into the attic, tape that has let go at the collars, and insulation that has slumped or torn. We check whether the return is large enough for the equipment, because an undersized return pulls dust through every gap it can find. We also look at moisture staining, which points to a different problem than dust. You get photos and a plain description of what we found.
How we decide cleaning is the right call
Cleaning helps when there is visible debris in the ducts. It does not help when the real issue is a leaking duct, a filter that keeps getting bypassed, or a return that is starved. So we look before we quote. If we pull a register and the interior is clean metal or clean flex, we say so and point you at the actual cause. Post-remodel dust, rodent evidence, years of no filter, or a system nobody has opened in a decade are the cases where cleaning earns its keep.

How often do air ducts need cleaning?
There is no fixed schedule. Most homes go many years between cleanings. Remodeling work, a rodent problem, water intrusion or a long stretch with a missing or collapsed filter are the events that move it up the list.
Will duct cleaning fix my dust problem?
Sometimes. If the ducts are visibly dirty, yes it helps. If dust returns quickly afterward, the cause is usually leaking return ductwork or an undersized return pulling attic air in, and that needs sealing or resizing instead.
Do you clean the dryer vent too?
No, we stay with heating and cooling ductwork: supplies, returns, plenums, boots and grilles. Vent work outside the HVAC system is a different trade, and we would rather point you to someone who does it daily.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call or fill in the quote form with what you notice. Warm air, no air, short cycling, a smell, a noise. Details like when it started help us bring the right parts on the first visit.
- Step 2
We diagnose on site
A technician checks the thermostat, the electrical side, refrigerant performance, airflow and the return sizing. We test rather than guess, then explain what failed and why in plain language before any work starts.
- Step 3
Repair and verify
We make the repair, then measure temperatures and airflow at the vents to confirm the system holds. If a duct or return is starving the equipment, we tell you what it would take to fix it.

Why homeowners call us
- We know stucco tract homesMuch of the housing we service was built fast with returns too small for the tonnage installed. That single duct in the hallway explains a lot of weak airflow complaints, and we look at it before we sell you equipment.
- Marine mornings, inland afternoonsCoastal condos fight humidity and salt air, while inland homes run long afternoon cycles in triple digits. Same system, different failure patterns. We set expectations for the climate your house actually sits in.
- Diagnosis you can followYou get told which part failed, what it does and what happens if it waits. No hurry, no scare talk. If the honest answer is that the system has a few seasons left, we say that.
- Repair before replacementMost calls end in a repair, not a new system. We quote replacement only when a repair will not hold or the cost stops making sense, and we explain the reasoning either way.
- All major brands, gas & electricFrom Carrier and Trane to Lennox, Goodman, Rheem and Bryant, serviced independently.
- Straight answersWhen a replacement beats a repair, we tell you, sometimes before we roll a truck.
