Refrigerant Leak Repair

We find and repair refrigerant leaks in residential air conditioning systems across Arizona, California and Nevada. You need this job when your AC runs and runs but the air coming out is barely cool, when ice forms on the indoor coil or the copper line, or when a system that was recharged last summer is weak again. Adding refrigerant without fixing the leak just buys a few months. Call us and we will schedule a leak search, then talk through the repair before we do it.

What refrigerant leak repair actually involves

We start by confirming the system is genuinely low rather than short on airflow, because a clogged filter or an undersized return can mimic the same weak, humid air. If pressures say low charge, we search for the leak with electronic detection, nitrogen pressure testing, or dye when the loss is slow. Common spots are the outdoor unit's service valves, brazed joints, the line set where it passes through stucco, and the indoor coil itself. Once located, we repair or replace that section, evacuate the system, and weigh in a correct charge.

What we check and what we replace

We check the indoor coil, the outdoor condenser coil, every accessible joint on the line set, the service ports and caps, and the filter drier. We also look at insulation on the suction line, since bare copper in an attic sweats and corrodes. Repairs range from replacing a leaking valve or resealing a joint to swapping an evaporator coil or running new line set. Whenever we open a sealed system we install a new filter drier, pull a deep vacuum, and verify the charge against measured superheat and subcooling.

How we decide repair is the right call

We weigh where the leak is, what the rest of the system looks like, and what refrigerant it uses. A pinhole at an accessible joint on a system with a healthy compressor is a straightforward repair. A leaking coil in an older unit that has already lost charge twice is a different conversation, and we will say so plainly. If the compressor is drawing hard or the outdoor unit is well past its service life, replacement may cost you less over the next few years. You get the findings and the options, then you choose.

Refrigerant Leak Repair — quick answers

Can you just add refrigerant instead of finding the leak?

A sealed system does not consume refrigerant, so if it is low there is a leak. Topping off gets you cooling for a while, but the charge escapes again. We would rather find the leak and fix it.

Is a refrigerant leak dangerous to my family?

Refrigerant is not something we ask homeowners to handle, and we never suggest DIY work on it. In a house it usually shows up as poor cooling rather than a health issue. Leave the lines alone and call us.

Why is there ice on my AC lines if it is low on refrigerant?

Low charge drops coil temperature below freezing, so moisture in the air freezes onto the coil and line. Shut the AC off, leave the fan on to thaw it, check your filter, and call us.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form with what you notice. Warm air, no air, short cycling, a smell, a noise. Details like when it started help us bring the right parts on the first visit.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, the electrical side, refrigerant performance, airflow and the return sizing. We test rather than guess, then explain what failed and why in plain language before any work starts.

  3. Step 3

    Repair and verify

We make the repair, then measure temperatures and airflow at the vents to confirm the system holds. If a duct or return is starving the equipment, we tell you what it would take to fix it.

Why homeowners call us

  • We know stucco tract homesMuch of the housing we service was built fast with returns too small for the tonnage installed. That single duct in the hallway explains a lot of weak airflow complaints, and we look at it before we sell you equipment.
  • Marine mornings, inland afternoonsCoastal condos fight humidity and salt air, while inland homes run long afternoon cycles in triple digits. Same system, different failure patterns. We set expectations for the climate your house actually sits in.
  • Diagnosis you can followYou get told which part failed, what it does and what happens if it waits. No hurry, no scare talk. If the honest answer is that the system has a few seasons left, we say that.
  • Repair before replacementMost calls end in a repair, not a new system. We quote replacement only when a repair will not hold or the cost stops making sense, and we explain the reasoning either way.
  • All major brands, gas & electricFrom Carrier and Trane to Lennox, Goodman, Rheem and Bryant, serviced independently.
  • Straight answersWhen a replacement beats a repair, we tell you, sometimes before we roll a truck.
