Why does my heat pump blow air that never feels hot?
Heat pumps deliver warm air, not the hot blast a furnace gives, so mild supply air can be normal. If it feels cool, the reversing valve, charge or thermostat staging is usually at fault and needs testing at the unit.
Is ice on the outdoor unit always a problem?
A light frost that clears during a defrost cycle is normal. Thick ice that stays for hours points to a defrost board, sensor or airflow fault. Shut the system off at the thermostat and call us before the coil is damaged.
What is auxiliary or emergency heat doing?
It is backup electric or gas heat that carries the load when the heat pump cannot keep up or has failed. If it runs constantly in mild weather, the heat pump side is not working and the repair is worth making early.
How does a dual-fuel system decide which heat to use?
A changeover control compares outdoor temperature to a set point and picks the heat pump or the gas furnace. When the sensor, thermostat setup or wiring fails, one side gets ignored. We test the changeover and correct the settings.
Can you repair a heat pump that also cools?
