UV Lights & Ventilation

We install and service UV lights and mechanical ventilation as part of indoor air quality (IAQ) work on residential HVAC systems across Arizona, California and Nevada. Homeowners usually call us when the air smells musty every time the AC kicks on, when a coil keeps growing biofilm, or when a tight house holds cooking smells and humidity for hours. Call us and describe what you smell and where, and we will look at your equipment and your air path before recommending anything.

What the job actually involves

A UV light install means mounting a lamp inside the air handler or plenum where it can shine on the evaporator coil and the drain pan, wired to a dedicated power supply and positioned so the coil stays clear of growth. Ventilation work is different. That is bringing measured outside air into the system, or adding exhaust in a bath or kitchen that never had enough, so stale air has somewhere to go. Both jobs start with opening the cabinet and looking at your ductwork.

What we check and install

We check the coil and drain pan for standing water and buildup, since a wet coil is what feeds most odor complaints. We measure return sizing, because undersized returns pull hard, run the coil colder and wetter, and make everything worse. We look at filter fit and gaps around the rack where unfiltered air sneaks past. From there we may install a coil UV lamp, add or upsize return capacity, set up a fresh air intake with a damper, or replace tired bath and range exhaust runs.

How we decide it is the right call

UV is a good fit when the problem lives on the coil, meaning musty air on startup that fades, visible growth, or a system in a humid closet or crawlspace. Ventilation is the answer when the problem is the whole house, meaning lingering smells, sticky indoor air, and windows that sweat. If the real issue is a plugged drain, a duct leak in the attic, or a return that is far too small for the BTU load, we say so and fix that first instead of selling you a lamp.

UV Lights & Ventilation — quick answers

Do UV lights replace my air filter?

No. A UV lamp treats the coil surface and nearby air, and it does nothing about dust and dander moving through the system. You still need the right filter, seated tight in the rack, changed on schedule.

How often does a UV lamp need replacing?

Most lamps lose useful output after roughly a year of runtime even though they still glow. We check them during maintenance visits and swap the bulb when it is spent, along with a look at the coil it is aimed at.

Will adding ventilation make my cooling bill worse?

Bringing in outside air adds some load, so we size it and damper it rather than leaving a hole open. Done right you get fresher air without your AC running long, uneven cycles on hot afternoons.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form with what you notice. Warm air, no air, short cycling, a smell, a noise. Details like when it started help us bring the right parts on the first visit.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, the electrical side, refrigerant performance, airflow and the return sizing. We test rather than guess, then explain what failed and why in plain language before any work starts.

  3. Step 3

    Repair and verify

We make the repair, then measure temperatures and airflow at the vents to confirm the system holds. If a duct or return is starving the equipment, we tell you what it would take to fix it.

Why homeowners call us

  • We know stucco tract homesMuch of the housing we service was built fast with returns too small for the tonnage installed. That single duct in the hallway explains a lot of weak airflow complaints, and we look at it before we sell you equipment.
  • Marine mornings, inland afternoonsCoastal condos fight humidity and salt air, while inland homes run long afternoon cycles in triple digits. Same system, different failure patterns. We set expectations for the climate your house actually sits in.
  • Diagnosis you can followYou get told which part failed, what it does and what happens if it waits. No hurry, no scare talk. If the honest answer is that the system has a few seasons left, we say that.
  • Repair before replacementMost calls end in a repair, not a new system. We quote replacement only when a repair will not hold or the cost stops making sense, and we explain the reasoning either way.
  • All major brands, gas & electricFrom Carrier and Trane to Lennox, Goodman, Rheem and Bryant, serviced independently.
  • Straight answersWhen a replacement beats a repair, we tell you, sometimes before we roll a truck.
